Destination customs doesn't see the package: it sees the declaration. If the declaration doesn't match what appears when the box is opened, the shipment stops, and a stopped shipment carries a cost nobody planned for.
Declare what is there, not what sounds good
- Describe the contents precisely: product type, quantity, and intended use.
- Keep categories separate: food, clothing, electronics, and documents can't be declared the same way.
- Include the declared value when applicable, with proof of purchase.
- If there are several items in one package, describe each one separately.
The invoice is part of the declaration
For purchases on request, the invoice that accompanies the goods has to be consistent with what is declared and with the value. When it isn't, the mismatch is the first thing detected, and the outcome is always the same: more time.
Pack the shipment to survive the trip
The physical side matters too. A well-packed box handles consolidation, container handling, and delivery better. Spread the weight, protect the edges, and seal every joint.
